Race-bred handling
The MR2 delivers confident steering and a flat cornering stance, without compromising ride quality. Front and rear MacPherson strut sports suspension has been calibrated to increase body rigidity, and features ball joint mounted stabiliser bars, ensuring taut and agile on-road responsiveness. What’s more, a limited slip differential helps eliminate unnecessary rear wheel spinning during rapid acceleration and cornering.
Clutchless 6 speed sequential manual transmission
Immerse yourself in the excitement of feeling your way through the gears – without the hum-drum of a clutch pedal. Developed in conjunction with Toyota's Formula 1 team, with both a short-throw ‘6 on the floor' (gear shifter), and ‘6 on the wheel’ (E-shift buttons on the steering wheel) the MR2’s 6 speed sequential manual transmission delivers remarkably crisp gear changes.
The MR2 also features an automatic gear changing function which shifts into first gear when the vehicle is at rest.
Mid-mounted high performance twin-cam VVT-i 1.8 litre engine
Adrenalised performance is the venom in the Spyder’s bite. Boasting a mid-mounted high performance twin-cam 1.8 litre 4 cylinder engine, it delivers 103kW of power at 6400rpm and 170Nm of torque at 4200rpm. And thanks to Toyota’s revolutionary Variable Valve Timing (VVT-i) technology, it employs computer technology and hydraulic controls to continually vary intake valve timing, dynamically adjusting to engine load and driving conditions, and giving you consistent power delivery throughout the entire rev range.
Outstanding fuel efficiency
Because its Variable Valve Timing (VVT-i) makes the most of every drop, the MR2 is very economical at the bowser, consuming a meagre 7.7L / 100km*.
