Safety
Toyota is committed to vehicle safety. That’s why we established the Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) passive safety assessment programme. First we find the toughest safety standards in the world, then we exceed them.
Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) standard
When you’re playing with race-bred performance, it’s nice to know you have the backing of Toyota safety. Every MR2 Spyder comes standard with ABS brakes, giving you rapid stopping power under any conditions. ABS prevents your wheels from locking up, so you’re less likely to skid under heavy braking. Wheel lock-up is a major cause of accidents because steering control is lost once the front wheels begin to skid.
Traction Control (TRC) & Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)
Master every corner and every surface with absolute confidence thanks to advanced Traction Control (TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). TRC and VSC are designed to enhance cornering and acceleration through sudden turns, slippery corners, and gravel roads. VSC dampens strong understeer (loss of front-wheel grip) and oversteer (loss of rear-wheel grip), and TRC helps distribute power to the wheels with the most grip.
Dual SRS airbags
Protect yourself and your passengers with driver and front passenger SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) airbags and pre-tensioning, force limiting seatbelts standard on every MR2 Spyder.
GOA crash resilient body
Toyota is committed to the development of technologies which enhance driver and occupant safety. Case in point: the MR2 Spyder’s crash resilient cabin, which was designed, tested, and manufactured according to Toyota’s stringent Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) guidelines:
- Revolutionary Safe-T-Cell cabin absorbs impact.
- Advanced side door anti-intrusion beams protect occupants from side-impact.
- Anti-intrusion brake pedal mechanism and accelerator pedal heel cushioning reduce the chance of injury to the lower limbs.
